William R. Schneider    1926 – 2017

Age 90, of East Sparta, passed away peacefully, Sat., Jan. 7, 2017, in Aultman Hospital.  He was born Jan. 25, 1926 in Sandyville, OH, a son of the late Ralph and Edna (Gately) Schneider, and was life resident of this area.  Bill was a graduate of East Sparta High School and also Kent State University.  He served as Principal at Sandyville Elementary School for five years and also taught in the Canton Local School system.  His teaching career is best known as the founder of the teaching program at the at the Multi-County Juvenile Attention Center.  He ended his career as the Center’s Administrator/Director until retirement in 1995.  He was honored as a recipient of the Liberty Bell Award from the Judicial System for his leadership at the Attention Center.  Bill served in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He recently was honored for 65 years’ membership in Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta.  He has been a member and Volunteer of East Sparta United Methodist Church, serving as their Sunday school Superintendent and a teacher.  Bill also was a 50 year member of Caldwell Lodge #330, F. & A.M., a 34 year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish, Rite Valley of Canton, and a member of the Stark County Retired Teachers Association.   Bill was a wonderful husband and father, and his special love was for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was always there for his family and will be greatly missed.  Bill is survived by his loving wife, Eileen (Brothers) Schneider, with whom he would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on Feb. 16, 2017; one daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Ted Haidet; one son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Patricia Schneider;  five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Ted (Amanda) Haidet, and their children, Tristan, Darah, and Caden, Tiffany (Brady) Steineck, and their children, Kenya, Kya, and Lincoln, Tannah (Joe) Hada, and their children, Jaxon and Alexis, Jason (Lainy) Gooding and their daughter, Liza, Caity Schneider and Joe Weyer.  In keeping with Bill’s wishes, he will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held Sat., Jan. 14, 2017, at  2 p.m. in East Sparta United Methodist Church with Pastor Peggy Garner officiating.  Military Honors will be held at the church.  Interment will be in East Sparta Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall during a luncheon immediately following the service.  Contributions in Bills’s memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd. North, Suite 445, Independence, OH 44131.
