Valeria was such an amazing woman. She was my great aunt and lived next door to my parents. She used to get my siblings and me on the bus and she had so much patience with me. When I was eleven I decided I wanted to drink all eight cups of water in one sitting before school. She warned me that it was a bad idea but did not stop me from doing it. She knew I needed to learn through experience and she didn't rub it in my face when I threw up all of the water.
Her heart must have been tempered with the love of God because she had the grace to allow people to make mistakes without having to fear her judgment and without fear that those decisions would alienate you from her love.
I grew up knowing this day would come and yet no amount of preparation could lessen the saddness of knowing I won't be able to see her again in this life. Faith allows me to believe I will see her again and get to tell her all of the things I didn't have the courage to tell her I'm life. I love her so much and I am glad she is at peace.
