Age 84, of Waynesburg, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, a son of the late William and Mary Jane (Moore) Maxwell, and had resided in the house he and his wife built for 57 years. John was a 1951 graduate of Springfield High School in Akron. He retired in 1985 from AT & T (Ohio Bell), after 31 years service, and went from being a lineman to working with computers, and as such had worked on Air Force One for Presidents Nixon and Ford, whom he got to meet. He was a member of St. George Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church and the Telephone Pioneers. John and Dorothy had spent winters in Bonita Springs, FL for 30 years. He enjoyed polka dancing and horse racing, so he could follow his daughter Jane, who is a jockey, and was quite proud when she won her 1000th race at Thistledown. John served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Trbovich) Maxwell, with whom he celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on Sept. 1, 2016; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Chuck Magrell, and one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Debra Maxwell; one granddaughter, Chelsea Magrell; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Doris Maxwell; a brother-in-law, Sam Trbovich; and three sisters-in-law, Amelia Sickafoose, Beverly Trbovich, and Helen Hahn. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Fr. Aleksa Pavichevich officiating. Interment will be in Sandy Valley Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call Wed. 5-8 p.m., with a Pomen Service at 7 p.m. and Thursday 10-11 a.m. Contributions in John’s memory may be made to St. George Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church or Community Hospice.
