Jeffery “Red” Sampsel

Age 54, of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Dover, a son of Bernard and Vonita (Patrick) Sampsel, of Mineral City, and was a Mineral City resident most of his life.  Jeff was a 1982 graduate of Tuscarawas Valley High School, where he loved and played all sports. He was retired from Speedie Salvage, where he was a night watchman, and also was a member of Ironworkers Local #550.  Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sharon L. Sampsel, with whom he would have celebrated their 18th Wedding Anniversary on Dec. 18th; one daughter and one son, Chelsea Sampsel and Matthew Sampsel, both of Massillon; three step-children, Michelle (Clyde Mitchell) Copen, of New Philadelphia, Mitchell (Heather) Strain, of Magnolia, and Carrie Wise, of Mineral City;  eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; one sister, Rhonda (Paul, Jr.) Rennie, of Bolivar; three nephews, two great-nieces and two great-nephews. Services will be held Sat. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor John Dunn officiating.  Friends may call Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Holmes Church Cemetery following cremation.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeff’s memory may be made to Tabor Ridge Community Church, c/o 525 Bond St., Dover, OH 44622, Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663, or the Athletic Dept. of Tuscarawas Valley High School, 2637 Tuscarawas Valley Rd.
