Daniel E. Sturtz II

Age 43, of Canton, loving son, brother and uncle, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016, while working in Mechanicsburg, PA.  He was born in Canton, a son of the late Daniel Sturtz and Mary (Cook) and Herb Boron, grew up in Waynesburg and had been a  Canton resident 20 years.  Dan was a 1991 graduate of Sandy Valley High School and graduated from Stark State College with a Surveying Degree.  He was an employee of Rettew & Associates Surveying Co. where he was Project Manager with four years service.  Previously he worked for Bair-Goodie & Associates and also Arcadis Surveying & Custom Landscaping Co.  Dan started playing rugby in 1993.  In 2000 he became President and head coach of the Stark County Men’s Rugby Club.  In 2008 he started the Stark County high school rugby program which he served as head coach.  In 2010 he started the Stark County middle school rugby program, and in 2016 he started the Stark Parks & Recreation youth rugby program.  In 2016 he was named the Northeast Ohio Rugby Commissioner.  This year he was honored by induction into the Stark County Rugby Hall of Fame. Mary was so proud of what Dan accomplished in rugby.   Besides his father he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Michael and Dorothy (Brunoni) Cook, and Floyd and Helen Rowlee, and a nephew, Tyler Boron.  Surviving besides Mary and Herb is his fiancée and the love of his life, Jo Lynn Bowman, of Canton; his sister, Dodi (Fred) Daley, of Waynesburg, and their children, Megan Daley, of Warren  and Brandon Daley, of Waynesburg; a step-sister, Heidi (Kevin) Davis, and their children, Cory, Alysha, and Jordin, of N. Canton; a step-brother, Trevor (Kim) Boron, and their sons, Dillon and Trey, of N. Canton.  He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev.
