Wilbert Richey, Jr. Obituary

WILBERT A. RICHEY, JR.,

Age 93, of Magnolia, passed away Fri., Dec. 18, 2020.  Born Feb. 22, 1927, in Majorsville, WV, a son of the late Wilbert and Flossie (Scherich) Richey, Sr.  Bill attended East Sparta United Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a member of the Carrollton Chamber of Commerce which he served in various offices.  He worked in the natural gas industry, for Tenneco Oil & Gas, from 1951 thru 1989, advancing from pipeline foreman to District Superintendent in 1953.  Bill’s job took him to the New England states, New York, Kentucky and Ohio.  He retired in 1989 while stationed at the Carrollton Compressor Station.  During Bill’s life he was very active in the Methodist Church at the different towns in which he lived.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking.  As a member of Carroll Meadows Golf Course he was proud of the “hole-in-one” which was the second of his life.  Bill was able to enjoy fly fishing in many places including New York, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, Alaska and Canada.  Winter would find him at his fly-tying table producing hundreds of flies for his next adventures in the spring.  As Daddy wrote upon his retirement: “The recording of my life so far makes me realize once again how God has blessed me with being an American, with having good parents who provided us with a good home, a good wife and mother for my children, two beautiful daughters who chose fine husbands and bore us four wonderful grandchildren.  I have experienced the friendship and help of many people in all walks of life and if the remainder is half as good as the past then I will not have reason to complain.”  Preceded in death by one sister, Doris Seidl, and three brothers, Charles, Randall and Robert Richey.  Survived by his wife, Ginny Richey, with whom he celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary on May 5th; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie Underwood (Daniel Rodriques) and Kathy (Rick) Mowery; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Shawn (Sheryl) Underwood and their daughters, Hope and Julia, Jason Underwood (Kelly Jean Watkins), Chad (Angela) Mowery and their sons, Luke and Charlie, and Gina Mowery (fiancé John Kirn); and numerous nieces and nephews.  A private service will be held Wed. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia.  Live streaming will begin at 10:45.  Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park.  There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Wilbert’s memory may be made to the East Sparta United Methodist Church, PO Box 445, East Sparta, OH  44626.  The family will hold a public memorial service at a later date.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
