Ruth M. McVann

Age 81, of North Canton, passed away Sat., Jan. 9, 2021.  She was born Feb. 4, 1939 in East Sparta, a daughter of the late Edward and Roberta (Haverman) McVann, and had been a resident of the Canton/North Canton area many years.  Ruth was a 1957 graduate of Sandy Valley High School, and a 1970 graduate of Walsh University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.  After graduation from Walsh she worked in the Admissions Office for two years.  In 1973 she began working on her Masters Degree in Counseling at the University of Akron, which she received in 1976.  Ruth retired in 1999 from North Canton City Schools after thirteen years’ service, where she was a counselor at both Northwood and Greentown Elementary Schools, and the North Canton Middle School.  Prior to that she was a counselor for ten years for Canton Local School District and also taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Canton.  Two years after her retirement she returned to Walsh University as Special Projects Coordinator for three years, after which she began spending winters in Good Samaritan Village in Kissimmee, FL.  Ruth was a member of Christ The Servant Parish and the Stark County and Ohio Retired Teachers Associations.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers, Patricia Eichelberger, Eugene, Robert, and Jay McVann, and three nephews, Jeff McVann, Dan McVann, and Mitch Eichelberger.  She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held in Christ the Servant Parish with Msgr. Lewis Gaetano as Celebrant.  Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd. North, Independence, OH 44131.  Please join us in Celebrating the Life of Ruth (Ruthie) McVann on Sat., July 24, 2021 from Noon until ????, at price Park, 1000 W. Maple St., North Canton, OH 44720, in Fitzpatrick Shelter, (closest pavilion to W. Maple) .   Lunch will be served around 1:00 p.m. or so, and we will share stories of our friend Ruth (Ruthie).  This is a very casual affair, so dress comfortably.  Feel free to invite others who have known her.
