Russell G. Myers, Sr.
Age 88, of Navarre, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022. He was born Jan. 3, 1934 on the family farm near Amma, WV, a son of the late Lincoln Geary Myers and Opal Virginia (Lowe) Myers, and had been a Canton resident over 70 years. Russ had worked at The Timken Co., Diamond-Portland Cement Co., and Babcock & Wilcox until they closed. He then owned and operated the Culp-Myers Awning Company from 1970 until he retired in 2002. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, LEAF Veterans organization and dedicated to see that flags flew on Veterans graves at Sunset Hills Burial Park every Memorial Day Weekend, a 60 year member of Canton Lodge #60, F. & A.M., 41 year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, having received the Meritorious Service Award, former member of the Tri-County Trail Association, member of HOF Corvette Club and the National Corvette Restorers Society, having owned three Corvettes, 54 – 64 & 79. Russ volunteered for the Hall of Fame Festival as Chairman of the Kickoff Parade. He served his country in the U.S. Army 1954-1956 stationed in Germany and at home in the West Virginia and Ohio National Guard as a First Sargent.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Mary Martha (Gossett) Myers, on August 22, 1979, and his son-in-law, Steve Merry. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Owen-Merry, son, Russell G. (Nancy) Myers, Jr., grand-daughter, Ashley (Percy) McGhee, three great-grandchildren, Percy McGhee III, Carlyle McGhee, and Xavier McGhee, eight step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, four step-great-great-grandchildren, his companion of 22 years, Luisa Berry, a sister Shirley (Dallas) Naylor, and two brothers, Robey (Elle Mae) Myers and Bennie (Brenda) Myers, several nephews and nieces.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Garrabrant officiating. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. Canton Lodge #60 F. & A.M. will hold Masonic Services Thursday at 5:45 p.m. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park with Military Honors.
