Rose M. Johanning
Age 90, of East Sparta, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021. She was born June 14, 1930 in East Sparta, a daughter of the late Martin and Nellie (Norris) Black, and was a life resident. Rose was a 1948 graduate of East Sparta High School and a graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She retired in 1991 from Canton Local Schools, after over thirty years’ service at North Industry and Walker Elementary Schools. Rose was an active member of Canton First Christian Church where she was a member of the choir. Previously she was a member of East Sparta Christian Church, where she directed the choir for seventeen years. She was a member of the Stark County and Ohio State Retired Teachers Associations. Rose always enjoyed singing at church, and also at weddings and funerals. But most of all for Rose, her family was everything to her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers, Kathleen Close and Nathan and Don Black. Rose is survived by her husband, Robert D. Johanning, with whom she would have celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on June 11th, one daughter and one son, Diane and Don Airhart and Paul and Darlene Johanning, her sister, Martha Miller, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Katelyn (Chris) Becker , and their children, Madison and Macklen, Matthew (Alison) Johanning, and her daughter, Sophia Selby, and their son, Jack, and Nathan Airhart. Services will be held Sat. at 1 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Ron Iwanusa officiating. Friends may call Sat. two hours before the service from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
