Roger Cosgrave Obituary

Roger L. Cosgrave

Age 70, of Waynesburg, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, May 8, 2022.  He was born Feb. 2, 1952 in Canton, was a life resident of Waynesburg, and lived his life to the fullest each and every day.  He was always ready for the party and to make people laugh.  He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, motorcycling and restoring tractors were just a few of his passions.  Roger was a very prideful man, he didn’t accept help very easily, but was always willing to give it.  Despite the mobility issues over the last few years from rheumatoid arthritis, he did the best he could every day and had a never quit attitude.  He spent his early years learning how to operate heavy equipment and be a mechanic from Charles Dalton.  Roger took that knowledge and was self-employed most of his life. There weren’t many things he couldn’t do or fix.  He accomplished so much it would be impossible to list.  His daughter Laurie felt his biggest accomplishment was being a good man, great friend and mentor, and the greatest Dad.  Laurie said “He was so much to so many, but he was my hero, my superman.  I miss him so much already, but I know I will always be Daddy’s little girl.”

Roger was preceded in death by his wife of fifteen years, Debra A. Cosgrave, on Dec. 6, 1987.  He is survived by his loving daughter, Laurie Cosgrave, a sister-in-law, Sara (Mike) Weltz, and three brothers-in-law, Larry, Bill and Tom Headley.  Laurie would like to give “a special thanks to all the Dalton gang that had a hand in my Dad’s upbringing.  He loved all of you as his family.  I also want to express my gratitude to everyone “in the valley” that kept an eye on him, helped him, and called him friend.”

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Ted Knapp officiating.  Friends may call Thursday 1-2 p.m. before the service.  Interment will be in Sandy Valley Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
