Raberta Slutz Obituary

Raberta J. Slutz

Age 69, of East Sparta, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.  She was born Oct. 21, 1952 in Okarche, OK, a daughter of the late Albert and Leona (Ahlden) Dannehl, and had been an East Sparta resident since 1974.  Raberta was a very active member of Peace Lutheran Church, but really enjoyed spending valuable time with her grandchildren.

Bertie was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church for many, many years.  She served in various capacities including church council, altar guild and as a visitation deacon. She cared deeply for the children of Peace and their spiritual growth and spent many years as a Sunday School Teacher, VBS teacher and youth group advisor, even after her own children were grown.

Bertie was known for being kind, generous and helpful. Her circle of friends is wide and varied, but she made everyone feel special and remembered to ask about the little things. She rarely left the house without an errand that gave back in some way and always came with a small gift or a nice word  “just because.” She lived a life of service and kindness and instilled that in her family and all who knew her.

Bertie battled cancer in the later years of her life but she remained strong in her faith and in her dedication to helping others. All the way to the very end she continued to think of ways to give generously and share Jesus’ love.

There are many local and national organizations that fund cancer research and help those fighting it and we ask you to continue to support the one of your choice. We long for the day there is a cure. Raberta’s husband, Terry, left us too soon from Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) is a great resource for questions or anyone who may have a family member facing a similar situation.

Bertie was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt to many, an awesome grandma, a friend, a helper, a listener and so much more. She is already so very missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Terry L. Slutz, on Feb. 7, 2021, and a sister, Velda Schroeder.  She is survived by two daughters and one son, Jennifer (Michael) Roberts, Valerie Slutz, and Benjamin (Meghan Mills) Slutz, five grandchildren, Roxy, Lily, Stella, Lucy, and Benjamin, and one brother, Melvin (Diana) Dannehl.

Services will be held Wed.  11 a.m. in Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Norquest and Pastor Scott Bacon officiating.  Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia.  Interment will be in Melscheimer Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Raberta’s memory may be made to the Refuge of Hope, 715 2nd St. NE, Canton, OH 44704. In consideration of others, please wear masks.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
