Martha J. Miller

Age 95, of East Sparta, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023.  She was born Sept. 27, 1927 in East Sparta, a daughter of the late Martin and Nellie (Norris) Black, and was a life resident of this area.  Martha was a 1945 graduate of East Sparta High School.  She was a long-time active member of East Sparta Christian Church, where she sang in the choir, was in the Ladies Circle and the Ruth Ladies Group, served as Financial Secretary and helped with Vacation Bible School.  Martha was active in the community and Sandy Valley Schools, by serving on the election Board, as a friend of the library, the PTA, band parent, and helping at the East Sparta Homecoming.  She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter, Sharon.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert L. Miller, on August 21, 1997, two sisters and two brothers, Kathleen Close, Rose Johanning, Nathan and Don Black.  Martha is survived by one daughter and two sons, Sharon (Paul) Meinerding, Jim (Pam) Miller, and Craig (Amy) Miller, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and her brother-in-law, Robert Johanning.

 Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in East Sparta Christian Church with Timothy Carlson officiating.  Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia and Friday one hour before the service at the church from 10-11 a.m.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville.  Contributions may be made to East Sparta Christian Church, PO Box 476, East Sparta, OH 44626.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
