Marjorie J. James
Age 105, of Magnolia, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023. She was born November 12, 1917 in Alliance, a daughter of the late George and Duetta (Pickering) Stroup, and was a resident of Magnolia most of her life. Marjorie was a 1935 graduate of Alliance High School and a 1939 graduate of Mount Union College with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church, Atwood Yacht Club, and Bolivar Chapter #368, Order of Eastern Star. In 1997 Richard and Marjorie received the Alumni Service Award from Mount Union College for outstanding achievement in a professional field and dedicated service to their college and community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Richard James, Jr., on August 13, 2017. She is survived by two daughters and one son, Carol (Patrick) Visci, Joanne “Josie” (Stephen) McElroy, and Richard L. James; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren: Andrew Visci and his daughter, Solin, Christen Visci (Aaron Rogers), and their children, Nola, Silas, and Simon, Spencer McElroy, Anna (Harry) Simons, and their soon to be born baby, James McElroy, Shelly (Scott) Everett, and their children, Casey and Olivia, Tracy James and her children, Peter, Jake, and Dale, Richard “Rick” (Kristin) James, and their children, Maddy, Charley, Beck, and Lucy.
Services will be held Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Carl Orphanides officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
