Marcella Austin
Age 93, of East Sparta formerly of Canton, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022. She was born October 5, 1928 in Oak Hill, OH, a daughter of the late Harry and Dulcie (Dillon) Hollback, and had been a Canton resident since 1941 and East Sparta the past ten years. Marcella was a 1945 graduate of Timken High School. She had worked for the U. S. Ceramic Tile Co. over forty years and then the Stark County Board of Elections ten years, retiring in 1997. She then worked part-time at the Stark County Recorders Office. Marcella was very active breeding and showing Dalmatians, and was a member of the Canton All Breed Club, a founding member of the McKinley Kennel Club, a 50 year member of the Western Reserve Dalmatian Club, and also belonged to the Dalmatian Club of America, the Greater Pittsburgh Dalmatian Club and the Chicagoland Dalmatian Club. She was Vice-President of Votes for Women and served as a Trustee, the West Stark Republican Club, and served as Treasurer for decades, the Professional Business Women of America, the Coterie Club, a long-time volunteer for the Republican Party, and was Honored as the 1993 Stark County Republican Volunteer of the year.
In addition to her parents, Marcella was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jack Austin, on June 20, 2009, a son, Robin James Austin, on Sept. 14, 2011, one brother and two sisters, Harry Hollback, Jr., Clara Mae Harris, and Ruth Frederick. She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Bob) Hester, five grandchildren, Nicholas (Melissa) Owens, Christopher (Dawn) Owens, Jamie (Nick) Sweeney, Scott (Heather) Owens, and Jenny Owens, eight great-grandchildren, Austin and Natalie Owens, Sean Link, Abrielle, Braden, and Evalynn Owens, Kelcee Sweeney, and Elias Owens, and her twin sister, Marjorie Furney.
Services will be held Monday, August 8, 2022, at 12 Noon in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Fr. Edward Beneleit officiating. Friends may call Monday 10 a.m.-12 Noon at the funeral home before the service. Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery in Canton.
