James R. “Rick” DeWitt
Age 68, of Canton, passed away Sat., October 7, 2023. He was born January 2, 1955 in Canton, a son of the late Bob and Juanita (Richards) Stiffler, and was a life resident. Rick was a 1973 graduate of Canton South High School. He was retired from Ashland-Marathon Oil Co., after over 30 years’ service, where he started on the pipeline, went to wastewater, and then became a training specialist. Previously he worked for The Timken Co. twelve years. Rick was a member of the Spinners Car Club, which was very helpful to families and children in need. Throughout his life he loved hot-rods and muscle cars, and recently bought a 1971 El-Camino, to go with his 1948 Chevy panel truck, 1946 Ford pick-up, and a custom 1977 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He and Peggy attended many car shows over the years.
Rick is survived by his companion of 33 years, Peggy S. Phillips; two sons and one daughter, Ricky (Dannette) DeWitt, Scott Phillips, and Sydney Phillips-DeWitt; four grandchildren, Gage DeWitt and his fiancée, Megan Skrypka, Skyla DeWitt, Alex DeWitt, and Emma DeWitt; a half- sister, Kristina Sexton; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Nancy Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
