Evelyn I. Stark

Age 92, of North Canton, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021.  She was born Oct. 24, 1928 in Bridgewater, IA, a daughter of the late Harlan and Violet (Gardner) Rechtenbach, and had been a resident of Canton and North Canton since 1952.  After graduating from high School, she attended C. E. School of Commerce in Omaha, NE, where she played AAU Basketball four years.  Evelyn retired in 1995 from Jackson Local Schools after 27 years’ service, where she was Executive Secretary for Supt. Joe Larson.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in North Canton, St. Paul’s Women’s Guild, Willowdale Country Club and Willowdale Women’s Club.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William P. Stark, on May 30, 1999, her three sons, William W., David A., and Thomas D. Stark, her step-father, Fred Heyn, and her brother, Dean H. Rechtenbach.  Evelyn is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ronanne Hohler, six grandchildren, Nichole (Brandon) Lovejoy, Thomas (Chairity) Stark, Billy (Amber) Stark, Geoffrey Stark, Matthew (Jerika) Stark, and Michael (Maddie) Stark, 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and her only niece and nephew, Betty Ann (Kevin) Lawson, and Fred (Tracy) Rechtenbach.  Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Deacon Dennis Ross officiating.  Friends may call Sunday 2-4 p.m.  Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Evelyn’s memory may be made to Jackson Local Schools Treasurer’s Office (Evelyn Stark Fund), 7602 Fulton Dr. NW, Massillon, OH 44646, to establish a scholarship for the girls’ basketball program.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
