Ervin L. Carpenter, Jr.
Age 90, of East Sparta, passed away Wed., August 17, 2022. He was born June 15, 1932 in Cambridge, OH, a son of the late Ervin L. and Minnie (Robertson) Carpenter, Sr., and resided in Ocala, FL and Waynesburg prior to coming to East Sparta. Ervin was a 1951 graduate of Waynesburg High School. He was retired from the Stark County Sheriff’s Department in the Maintenance Department, and had served as the Police Chief for the Village of East Sparta for a number of years. He was a member of the Police Chief’s Association, attended East Sparta Christian Church, enjoyed fishing and golf, and loved playing cards, especially euchre and penny-ante poker.
In addition to his parents, Ervin was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Meurer, and two brothers, Raymond and Max Carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Flora Jean Carpenter, with whom he celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on Oct. 6, 2021, three daughters, Jo Ann Carpenter, Suzanne Carver, and Shelley (John) Fiddler, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. in East Sparta Christian Church with Timothy Carlson officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ervin’s memory may be made to the Refuge of Hope, 715 Second St. NE, Canton, OH 44704.
