Earl D. Slutz
Age 91, of Magnolia, passed away Sat. April 14, 2018. He was born Dec. 29, 1926 in East Sparta, a son of the late Charles and Catherine (Yant) Slutz, and was a life resident of the East Sparta and Magnolia area. Earl was a 1946 graduate of East Sparta High School, and a graduate of Bluffton College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics, and where he played football. He retired in 1990 from the U. S. ceramic Tile Co., after 39 years service, where he was Quality Control and Production Manager. Earl was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and Isaac. L. Kinney American Legion Post #244. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveled extensively to Alaska. Earl proudly served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was a Paratrooper and had become a Paratrooper Instructor at Fort Benning. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Hazel M. Slutz, on April 20, 2014, one sister and four brothers, Dorothy Howdyshell, Dick, Linford, Bill, and John Slutz. He is survived by two daughters and three sons, Janice (Manny) Nieto, June (Dave) Sherwood, Don (Janice) Slutz, James (Leslie) Slutz, and Paul Slutz; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Victor (Shelby) Slutz, Edward Slutz, and Verl Slutz. Services will be held Wed. at 2 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Carl Orphanides and Pastor Steven Smith officiating.
