Dorothy E. Marker

Dorothy Elizabeth Marker, age 99, passed away peacefully and quietly in Comfort Care at Atrium Health Hospital in Pineville near Charlotte, North Carolina, at 6 PM Thursday, November 4, 2021. Born on September 6, 1922 in Minerva, Ohio, separated from her siblings and father due to extenuating circumstances and the death of her mother, Dorothy spent her time in foster care from the age of 4 to 15.

At 15 when she was living in one of those foster homes, she met her future husband, Clifford Marker. They were married 64 years until he passed away in 2003. Separated only by the war years when Clifford enlisted from August of 1943 to March of 1946, they lived their entire married life in Morges, Ohio among best friends, neighbors and some family members who lived in the area. She was also preceded in death by her infant son Clifford Marker, Junior, her beloved sister Violet McIntire, Carrollton, Ohio, her loving foster sister Elizabeth Smith, Carrollton, Ohio, her granddaughter, Heather Rene' Scheiring, and her grandson Jason Ethan Scheiring. She is survived by her loving daughter, Claudia and son-in-law, Mark Scheiring of Fort Mill, South Carolina, her grandson, Brandon Scheiring (Courtney Chambers) also of Fort Mill, South Carolina, her beloved nieces, Sherrie Lee Stowers, Pulaski, Virginia and Sharon Ann Sheets (Richard) of Carrollton, Ohio. She moved with her daughter to South Carolina and lived there with her for the past 16 years.

She joined the Crossroads Lutheran Church there, attending nearly every Sunday of her remaining years gaining an entire new family of church community. She busied herself with church outreach projects in the knit/crochet group there, Slipped Stitches. She also enjoyed her friends in her garden club, The Perennial Optimists. She participated in monthly gatherings to play Bunco....She so loved Bunco. She had 99 years of a full, active life enriched by all her loved ones, both friend and family. She has left a void...she will be missed.
