Dolores J. Koerber
Age 87, of Canton, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023. She was born April 7, 1936 in Martins Ferry, OH, a daughter of the late Clarence and Bertha (Palmer) Koerber, and had been a Canton resident since 1942. She was a 1954 graduate of McKinley High School, and she received her Bachelor of Religious Education Degree from Malone College in 1958. That was the first graduation held in Cantona at Bethel Temple. She was the only member of that class from Canton. Hence, she was the first Cantonian to graduate from the new Canton Campus. She returned to Malone to get her Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Music Education in 1965, and she received her Master of Education Degree from Kent State University in 1972.
Dolores was a music teacher at Massillon Baptist College from 1972-2009. She also gave private piano and organ lessons for many years. She had been a member of Faith Community Church and served as organist at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church many years. Dolores was a member of the American Guild of Organists, the MacDowell Music Club since 1992, and served as President from 2005-2009, and previously served as First Vice President and Recording Secretary. She also served on the Alumni Executive Board of Malone University. On May 12, 2000 she was presented with an honorary Doctorate of Religious Education for her 27 years of dedicated service in teaching music at the Massillon Baptist Temple. In 2017 she received the Life Time Achievement Award from Albert Nelson Marquis, and in 2019 was listed in the Marquis Top Professors in America.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her brother, Richard E. Koerber, on December 11, 1995.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Dr. Joel L. Adkins, Pastor of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, officiating.
