Catherine M. Matthews

Age 74, of Canton, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, December 16th surrounded by her family. Cathy was born August 4, 1947 in East Liverpool, OH, a daughter of the late Leonard and Rebekah (Straight) Jividen, and had been a resident of the Canton area most of her life.  Cathy graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1965 and obtained her Registered Nurse Degree at East Liverpool City Hospital School of Nursing in 1968, and spent the majority of her nursing career at Akron General Hospital.

 Cathy loved the Lord and was an active member of The Church of the Lakes, United Methodist. Cathy volunteered her time at the church by teaching the “Grief Share Program” and was active with the Indian River Program at the church. Cathy loved her church family and spoke of them often.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Don Matthews, her brother Arza “Bud” Jividen, of Miamisburg, OH and brother-in-law, Larry Levine, of Berlin Center, OH.  Cathy is survived by her sisters, Debbie (Robert) Perkins and Pamela Levine of East Liverpool, OH, Stephanie (Scott) Smith, of Miamisburg, OH and her brother Scott Jividen, of East Liverpool, eight nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and great-nephews, one great-great-niece, and her kitties Wiley and Baby.  Everybody affectionately called her “Aunt Cathy.”

Cathy will be greatly missed by her family and her friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Church of the Lakes on Wed., Dec. 29, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bryan George officiating.  .
