Barbara A. Wheeler
Age 75, of Sandyville, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022. She was born Dec. 26, 1946 in Canton, a daughter of the late Glen and Edna (Volkert) Maple, grew up in Waynesburg and has been a long-time resident of Sandyville. Barb was a 1964 graduate of Sandy Valley High School, and at the age of 46 she received an Associate Degree in Sign Language from Akron University. She taught at Perry Schools and Massillon Schools as an interpreter and teacher’s aide.
Barb was a member of the Fellowship of the Little Country Church, where she was known as the Craft Lady, volunteered with Vacation Bible School, and was in charge of Operation Christmas Child, which boxed over 162 shoeboxes for shipment to needy children overseas. She also had been Missions Chairman at the church for many years. She was part of a group of classmate ladies who met for lunch every month at different restaurants, and a group of ladies from the Little Country Church who met at Cibo’s for lunch. Barb and Stan traveled extensively from Maine to Alaska and Florida to California, and had traveled Route 66 thru the country. She had been a Girl Scout leader for over 30 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith and Jim Maple. Barb is survived by her husband, Stanley O. Wheeler, with whom she would have celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary on June 5th, a daughter and son, Jennifer (David) Carr and Ryan (Tiffany) Wheeler, four grandchildren, and one great-grandson, Shannon Carr and Jeramy Bange and their son Jayden, and one soon to be born, Justin Carr, Alexis Carr, and Brianna Wheeler, one sister and one brother, Lou Ann (Tom) Tschantz and Steve Maple.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Little Country Church with Pastor Ted Knapp officiating. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia and Monday 10-11 a.m. at the church before the service. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville across the street from their home.
