Audrey Beatty
(nee Pritchard)
October 20, 1925 – May 24, 2018
Audrey Beatty, our loving mother & grandmother, passed away May 24, 2018, in Lake Havasu City, AZ after a brief illness. Born in Bristol, England on October 20, 1925, she was the 2nd of four children born to the late Sydney and Olive (Glendinning) Pritchard.
After finishing her education at Smithville Senior School in Bristol, she entered the workforce. In September 1943, she joined the British Women’s Land Army, became a “land girl” & worked on a farm outside Bristol. While serving, she met and married Richard Beatty, an American soldier stationed nearby. He was the “love of her life”. After the war, they settled in Richard’s hometown of Magnolia, Ohio where they raised two daughters.
During Audrey’s working career, she was employed in the offices of Merrick Coal Company, the Bank of Magnolia, and the James Brother’s Coal Company. She retired in 1988 but continued to be an active volunteer in many church and community projects and events. Both being retired, Audrey and Richard became snowbirds, splitting time between homes in Magnolia and Lake Havasu City, AZ where their daughters reside. They became full-time residents of Lake Havasu City in 2012.
Besides her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Richard Beatty, and her 3 British siblings, John Pritchard, Colleen Tovey, & Margaret Sanders. She is survived by her two daughters Sally (Damon Hasler) Chevraux, Sheila (Don) Althaus, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Audrey will always be lovingly remembered for her kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed by both her family and friends.
Services will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia with Pastor J. Andrew Riggs officiating. Interment will be in the Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Condolences may be sent to www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
