Age 70, of Massillon, passed away Sat., August 12, 2023, after a long courageous battle with multiple myeloma She was born November 24, 1952 in Knott County, KY, a daughter of the late Paul and Ruth (Martin) Roope, raised in Marion, OH, and had been a resident of the Canton area since 1987. Ann was a 1971 graduate of Marion Harding High School, and attended the Ohio State Marion Campus. She had been employed by GTE Corp., Vogelsang, Howes, Lindamood and Brunn Law Firm, and the Akron Quaker Hilton. Ann was a member of Church of the Lakes, where she was coordinator of the Missions Program and was a member of the Leadership Team.
Ann loved to cook for her family and was a skilled pie and cookie baker. She took great pride in her home and loved and enjoyed traveling, including an inspiring trip to the Holy Land and several trips to European destinations. She had also traveled widely in the United States. Ann was outgoing and well liked and had many friends. She was very involved in her church and was passionate about mission work done locally and abroad. More than anything though, Ann’s deep passion was her sons and her grandchildren. She was devoted to all of them and strived to support them and be involved in their lives whenever possible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bev Barr. Ann is survived by her husband, Ron Green, with whom she celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary on May 28th; her sons Matthew and Brian and daughter-in-law Nicole, and her four grandchildren, Hannah, Sam, Lauren, and Andrew, all of whom she loved and cherished deeply; and her sisters, Sharon Harmon and Paula Sizemore. She also is survived by special and long-time friends, Linda Mills and Pamela Krutz.
The family wishes to thank Pastor Bryan George, Pastor Jared Priset, and the entire church family at Church of The Lakes in Jackson Township, Canton, OH, for the loving support provided to Ann. Ann’s church and her faith were very important to her and she felt very welcomed and loved at Church of The Lakes.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jennifer Payne, who provided care to Ann in the early years of her treatment, and also thanks the nurses and staff of Summa Cooper Cancer Center of Akron, where Ann received treatment during those early years. They also wish to thank Dr. Weiquan Lu and the nurses and staff at the Oncology Infusion Center at the Akron General Physicians Office Building, and the nurses and staff at the Oncology Infusion Center at the Akron General Health and Wellness Center in Green, where Ann received treatment in recent years.
The family wishes to thank the Physicians, nurses and staff at the Akron General Hospital ICU. In particular nurses, Kim, Mariam, Shannon, Rachel, Deanna, Jerrica, Kelly, and Melissa, who provided excellent care for Ann in her last days. Finally, the family extends special thanks to Dr. Christy Samaras of the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center, who guided and directed Ann’s treatment and provided caring, loving support to her during the entirety of her twelve year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Church of The Lakes with Pastor Bryan George officiating, followed by a luncheon. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 10-11 a.m. at Church of the Lakes. Inurnment will be in Church of The Lake Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ann’s memory may be made to the Church of the Lakes Missions Program, 5944 Fulton Dr. NW, Canton, OH 44718.
