Obituary

William W. Johnstone Age 82, of Canton, passed away Friday evening in Aultman Hospital. He was born in Mineral City, OH, a son of the late Robert and Bernice Collins Johnstone, and had been a Canton resident since 1965, except for seven years in Magnolia. Bill was a 1947 graduate of Magnolia High School and attended Kent State University and the University of Akron. He retired in 1991 from Coen Oil Co., after 31 years service, where he was a Marketing Representative. After his retirement he worked 10 years at Standards Testing Lab in Massillon. While at Coen Oil he received many awards for marketing. Bill was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia, a 58 year member of Caldwell Lodge #330, F. & A.M. in Bolivar, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, and a life member of the Marine Corps Aviation Association. He was a Ham Radio Operator with the call letters WD8U. Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948-1960. Preceded in death by one sister and two brothers, Delcia Barstow, Mike and John Johnstone. Survived by his wife, Mary Lou Johnstone, with whom he would have celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on April 14th; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Powis, of Parma, OH; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Vicky Johnstone, of Hebron, OH; five grandchildren and three great-grand-daughters, Heidy Fuhry and her husband, Bill, and their daughters, Hannah, Maddy, and Sarah , Brian Johnstone, Dick and Lynzie Powis, and Becky Eagle; also many nieces and nephews. A private service for the family will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor John Maroni and Pastor Andrew Riggs officiating. Interment in Magnolia Cemetery with full Military Honors. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia where Masonic Services will be held at 5:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to Palliative Care at Aultman Hospital in recognition for the wonderful care they provided to him.
