William E. Hicks

Age 92, of Sandyville, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, in Carroll Golden Age Retreat.  He was born in Frank, NC, a son of the late Hobart and Dora (Buckhannon) Hicks, and had been a resident of the East Sparta/Magnolia area since 1956.  Bill retired in 1983 from The Timken Co., after 40 years and three months service, where he was a machinist.  He was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple and Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta.  Preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth C. Hicks, on Aug. 22, 1983, a daughter, Linda Hicks, on Nov. 24, 2005, four brothers and two sisters.  Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William M. and Victoria Hicks, of Sandyville; three granddaughters,  Amy Hicks and her companion, Shannon,  Sara  (Daniel) McDowell, and Lynn Halsey; three great-grandchildren, Luella, Eileen and Evan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Roger Dean, of Granite Falls, NC, Beulah and Norman Duckworth, of Morgantown, NC, and Kate Ollis of Newland, NC; one sister-in-law, Joanne Hicks, of Newland, NC; several nieces and nephews.  Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Fr. Joseph Zamary officiating.  Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery with full Military Honors.  Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to Isaac L.
