CLASSIFIED OBITUARY FOR THURSDAY WILLIAM P. DOWNES, Age 91, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away there Aug. 5, 2011. Born in New Philadelphia, a son of the late Otho and Ina Bowers Downes, he had lived in Magnolia from 1930 to 1945 and Canton until 1956. Bill was a 1938 graduate of Magnolia High School and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot during WWII. He was a member of Canton #60 F. & A. M., and managed a Sherwin Williams store in Canton until 1956 when he and his family moved to Cleveland. Preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Seeling Downes in 1972, and his second wife, Eve Downes, in 2005, and two brothers. Survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Ann Shaw, of Kansas City, MO, and Kathryn Sue and Darrel Allen, of Lithia, FL, one step-daughter, Judith Anderson, of Chicago; one brother and sister-in-law, James M. and Donna Downes, of Colorado; and three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A Graveside Memorial Service will be conducted Sat. at 11 a.m. in Magnolia Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia is in charge of arrangements.
