William D. Thompson

age 63, of Canton, passed away Wed., July 16, 2014, at Turkeyfoot Golf Course after finishing a great round of golf, including winning the longest putt.  He was born in Willoughby, OH, a son of the late John and Nora (MacIntosh) Thompson, and had been a Canton resident since 1977.  Bill was a 1969 graduate of Willoughby South High School, where he played football and served as a lifeguard at Lake Erie beaches, and also attended Lakeland College where he played soccer.  Bill was the driving force of Research & Development at Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems in Akron, where he was an engineer and developed and designed carbon brakes for aircraft and auto racing.  He loved football and was an avid follower of McKinley High School, Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns.  Bill loved golf and was a member of the Wed. Night League at Turkeyfoot and had served as President several times, and also subbed on Thursday night at Sable Creek.  Survived by his wife, Kathy (Mitchell) Thompson, with whom he celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary on Feb. 8th; two daughters, Erica (Danny) Quicci, of Canton, and Becky Thompson of Canton and her fiancé, James Brown of London, England; his granddaughter, Audrey Quicci, whom he called Audee, was the light of his life and he loved spending time with her; two sisters and one brother, Linda Wilson, Sally Paladin, and Bob Thompson.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  The Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
