William L. Blackmer, Sr.

Age 88, of Louisville, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2016.  He was born in Crawford County, PA, a son of the late Frank and Dora (Hall) Blackmer, and had been a resident of the Louisville area most of his life.  Bill retired in 1983 from Union Metal Mfg. Co., after 32 years service, where he was a maintenance worker.  He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Blackmer, on Jan. 14, 1997, his son, George Blackmer, on Dec. 20, 2006, and his daughter, Mary Ann Hosmer, on Oct. 23, 2012.  Bill is survived by his companion, Dee Shumaker, his daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Dale Fryer, of Strasburg, and his son and daughter-in-law, William and Beth Blackmer, Jr., of Carrollton;  10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Iva Mae King.  Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Vicar Aaron Speakman officiating.  Interment will be in Foxfield Preserve at The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, OH.
