Obituary

WALTER J. GIROD,

Age 96, of Dover, passed away Sun., Jun. 17, 2018.  Born in Canton, a son of the late Julius and Emma (Mathys) Girod.  Walter was a 1940 Graduate of Timken Vocational High School, served with the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict.  He retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft where he was a tool and die maker; previously he was employed by the Timken Co.  Walter was a member of Trinity Lodge #710 F. & A.M., for over 60 years and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton.  Preceded in death by his wife, Vlasta Marie Girod in 2006 and his first wife, Flora Jean Girod, in 1980, his son, Richard Girod, two brothers, Paul and George Girod, a son-in-law, Doug Herath, and a granddaughter, Julie Herath.  Survived by one son, Walter J. (Diana) Girod II; two daughters, Cynthia  Herath and Nannette (Scott) Welker; his grandchildren, Melissa Richardson, Jenny Hellier, Jeff (Heidi) Girod, Stephanie Earnest, Angela Herath, Adam (Rebecca McCarthy fiancée) Welker, Megan (Matthew) Walters; and his great grandchildren, Noah Hellier, Aiden Girod, Alexander Girod, Stella Girod, Brayden Earnest, Bryce Earnest, and Landon Herath.  A graveside memorial service will be held Thur., July 19, 2018 in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.  The Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
