VERNARD A. SHUMAN,

Age 90, of Somerdale, passed away Oct. 4, 2014, in his residence.  Born in Barnesville a son of the late Francis and Jessie (Calhoun) Shuman, he had been a life resident of the Somerdale/Mineral City area.  Vernard was a 1942 graduate of Mineral City High School and retired from U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. in 1987 as a Maintenance Foreman.  He was a founding member of Zoarville Christian Chapel and served with the U.S. Navy during WWII.  Preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Shuman on Sept. 13, 2001, his son Jerry, daughter-in-law Gloria, three sisters, Media, Daisy and Wilma, and two brothers, Floyd and Cliff.  Survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Belva and Sam Gray, of Avon Park, FL; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth Shuman, of Brewster, and Daniel and Robin Shuman, of Madison, GA; Pam (Shuman) Sepulveda, of Mineral City; three brothers, Lomas Shuman, of New Philadelphia, Francis "Archie" Shuman, of Mineral City, and Seward Shuman, of Sherrodsville; his friend, Freda Johnston, of Lindentree; and nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, Melissa and Steve Gresham, and their children, Abigail, Joel and Ryan, Stephanie and Jonathon Phillips, and their children, Madeline and Grant, Amanda and Chris Saylor, Tara and Pete Schebil, and their children, Dylan and Josie, Eric and Ashley Shuman and their son, Jaxson, Connie and Richard Olson and their children, Caitlin, Sammy and Piper, Jeremy Gray, Deborah and Luke Miller, and their children Audrey and Leanna, and Robert Shuman.  Services will be held Fri. at 11 a.m. in the Zoarville Christian Chapel with Rev. Alan Christner officiating.  Interment in New Cumberland Cemetery.  Friends may call Thur. from 6-8 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vernard's memory may be made to Christian Chapel in Zoarville, 7439 Main St. NE, Zoarville, OH 44656.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
