Timothy L. Costello,
Age 59, of Magnolia, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026. He was born July 20, 1966, in Canton, a son of the late Nicholas and Louise (Zink) Costello. Tim was a 1984 graduate of Sandy Valley High School and a 1988 graduate of Ohio University.
He was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church, the Referee Association, and Magnolia community. Tim dedicated many years to his profession and was widely respected for his commitment to officiating high school and collegiate athletics, inspiring countless youth athletes along the way. Beyond his officiating, he worked diligently alongside his family and devoted himself to preserving the rich history of the Magnolia community through numerous historical accounts.
In addition to the many hats he wore (literally and figuratively), he was quite the hobbyist and nature enthusiast. He enjoyed hiking, kayaking, skiing, sailing, biking, gardening, fishing, dancing, and singing. Most of all, he greatly treasured spending time with those he loved.
Words cannot properly convey his natural ability to connect with those around him. Tim was always ready to make new friends, and those who knew him quickly became familiar with his genuine demeanor, heartening counsel, and unmistakable humor. It comes as no surprise that countless people have come together for his sake, as he would have been equally honored and delighted to spend time with them all.
He is survived by two daughters, Olivia and Alicia Costello; two sons, Daniel (Chelsea) Costello and Cameron Costello; three sisters, Karen (Jim) Hough, Christine (Michael) Tozzi, and Nancy (Mark) Sommer; one brother, William (Cheryl) Costello; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Monday in St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tim’s name may be made to St. James Catholic Church, or St. James School, 400 West Lisbon St., Waynesburg 44688.
Help us in remembering a wonderful friend by cherishing your favorite memories of Tim. One of his favorite verses was, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Our greatest comfort is knowing that he rests easy, experiencing the surpassing joy of being in the presence of the Lord and is reunited with his parents. We love you so much Dad, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Son. Thank you, Timmy, for the way you have touched our hearts forever.
