Tena R. "Connie" Gentry

Age 60, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, in her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born Nov. 5, 1956, in Philippi, WV, a daughter of the late Richard and Freda (Mayle) Newman, and had been a Canton resident most of her life.  Connie was a 1974 graduate of Canton South High School.  She was a 20 year employee of Res-Care, retiring in 2013, where she was a special needs care giver.  She was a member of Sandy Valley Church of God.  Connie was a fantastic cook, and loved spending time with her children and especially her granddaughter.  Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Derrick Gentry, and two sisters, Carolyn Newman and Sandy Long.  She is survived by her husband Victor Alan Gentry, with whom she celebrated their 39th Wedding Anniversary on Jan 28th; two daughters and one son, Freda Gentry, Christina Gentry and Robbie Gentry, and her beloved granddaughter, Evelyn Ann Gentry; three brothers, Rick (Shelley) Newman, Donald (Tammy) Newman, and Michael Newman; and nieces and nephews.  Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Sandy Valley Church of God with Pastor Clifford Hughes officiating.  Friends may call Friday 12-1 p.m. before the service.  The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice and Heather and Nancy for the love and care they gave to Connie.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
