Obituary

Susan R. (Kemmler) Kampfer, beloved wife of Doug Kampfer, lost her long battle with Ovarian cancer on July 31, 2024. Susan was born in Erie, Pa. on March 20,1952 to Adam and Nina (Leta) Kemmler. She graduated in the class of 1970 from Erie's McDowell High School and earned a B.A. in accounting from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio where she met Doug.

After marrying, Sue and Doug moved to Canton, Ohio where she spent the majority of her adult career in the field of accounting and her leisure time enjoying a variety of sports and volunteer activities throughout Canton and Hilton Head, S.C.

In 2009 Sue and Doug retired to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where she established many new lasting friendships and continued participating in sports and travel. Sue became an avid tennis player both socially and USTA. Complimenting her tennis were her multiple swimming workouts at the Country Club of Hilton Head fitness center.

Sue was the Past President of College Club of Canton; an active member of Canton J.C. Women; the Canton Junior Women's Club; the Museum Guild of the Canton Museum of Art; the Canton Symphony League and the Junior League of Canton where she was the Past Chairman of the Holiday Gala Fund Raiser; the Junior League of Savannah-Hilton Head; the Women's Association of Hilton Head Island; a former member of the Atwood Yacht Club and the Hilton Head Plantation Yacht Club; and a member of Hilton Head Ski Club.

Always looking for adventure, Sue enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the USA, as well as skiing throughout the Western US. Sue was also an excellent sailor.

Sue is survived by her husband, Doug of Hilton Head, SC with whom she recently shared their 50th wedding anniversary. Brothers-in-law Kevin of Canton, Ohio and Kalvin of Magnolia, Ohio. Aunt Angie Moulton of Fredericksburg, VA. Uncle Frank Leta of St. Louis, Missouri and 29 first cousins. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery in a private family interment.  A celebration of life will be held at the Country Club of Hilton Head on Sat., Sept. 7, 2024, from 3-5 p.m.

The family would like to thank all the many friends in Hilton Head who supported Sue in her battle with cancer and to Ms. Evelyn Gardner of Bluffton for her loving help with Sue's care in her final months on this earth.  A special thank you goes out to all the many hospice nurses of Hospice of the Low Country who cared for Sue as well.

Memorials in Sue's name may be made to: Shriners' Hospital for Children Erie, 1645 West Eighth Street Erie, PA. 16505, Hospice of the Low Country, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910, or to a charity of your choice.
