Stella D. Ionno
Age 91, of Canton and formerly of Waynesburg, passed away Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital. She was born in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Oresto and Edith (Bitzel) Cecchetti and resided there until moving to Canton 15 years ago. Stella was a 1940 graduate of Waynesburg High School, and also a graduate of Walsh University with both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She retired in 2002 as a elementary special education teacher at St. Michael Elementary School in Canton after 25 years teaching. She previously taught at St. James in Waynesburg and Canton City Schools. After her retirement she volunteered at Aultman Hospital for several years. Stella was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Anthony J. Ionno, on Feb. 12, 1972., and three brothers, Evio, Joseph, and Oresto "Junior" Cecchetti, Jr. Survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Cindy Ionno, of Canton, Dave and Cathy Ionno, of Waynesburg, and Mark and Cindy Ionno, of Barberton; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Zamary as Celebrant. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Stella's memory may be made to St. James School, 400 W. Lisbon St., Waynesburg, OH 44688.
