Shirley D. Thomas

Age 90, of North Canton, passed away Sat., Feb. 13, 2016, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.  She was born in Strasburg, OH, a daughter of the late Jacob and Eda (Lanzer) Maurer, and had been a resident of the Canton area since 1976.  She and her husband spent 25 wonderful winters in Clearwater, FL.  Shirley retired in 1987 from the United States Postal Service in Canton where she was a clerk.  She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in North Canton, and Bolivar Chapter #368, Order of Eastern Star in Bolivar.  Besides her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters and seven brothers.  She is survived by her husband, James E. "Jim" Thomas, with whom she celebrated their 38th Wedding Anniversary on January 7th; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gretchen (Reed)  Deubner, and Rachel (Reed) and Robert Tolley; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott Reed and Bruce and Pamela Reed, all of Bolivar; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece, Michel Forney.  Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Don Richards officiating.  Interment in Ft. Laurens Cemetery in Bolivar.  Friends may call Thursday 10-11 a.m. before the service.  The family wishes to express their appreciation to Tridia Hospice, The Inn at Whitewood Village, and special caregiver, Janeen Clark, for the love and care they gave to Shirley.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley's memory may be made to Tridia hospice, 4680 Douglas Circle NW, Canton, OH 44718.  Condolences may be made to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
