Ruth C. Abel

Age 96, of North Canton, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015.  She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late Clyde and Lillie (Melcher) Wolfe, and was a life resident of this area.  She was a 1937 graduate of Middlebranch High School.  She was retired from North Canton Schools where she was manager of the cafeteria at Orchard Hill Elementary School.  Ruth was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Canton, the Auxiliary of the National Association of Letter Carriers, which she served as President, and the Auxiliary of the National Association of Postal Supervisors. She was preceded in death by a son, Ted Abel, two brothers and two sisters, Wilbur and Donald Wolfe, Dorothea Wise, and Leone Sovey.  Survived by her husband, Owen W. "Bud" Abel, Jr., with whom she celebrated their 76th Wedding Anniversary on May 6th; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betts Abel and Patrick Saccomandi, of Arlington, VA, and Becky Abel, of Pittsburgh, PA; four sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Richard and Barbara Abel, of Ann Arbor, MI, Robert Abel, of North Canton, Tom and Nancy Abel, of North Canton, John and Karen Abel, of Canton, and Dr. Deb Abel, of Poway, CA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Stockburger, of North Canton.  A Memorial Service will be held Sat., July 18, 2015, at 12 Noon at Grace United Church of Christ with Rev. Jacqueline McMillen and Rev. Cassandra Wolfe officiating. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall during a luncheon immediately following the service.
