Robert V. Maurer
Age 92, of Mineral City, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, in the Hospice Care Center of Akron. He was born in Mineral City, a son of the late Frank and Agnes (Gilbow) Maurer, and was a life resident. Bob was a 1941 graduate of Mineral City High School, and retired in 1982 from Conrail, after 42 years service, where he was Office Manager in the Canton office. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Zoar, where he sang in the choir and had been a member of the Church Council. He also sang with the Melody Quartet for many years until his mid 80's. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Patricia J. Maurer, on Dec. 26, 1987, and a granddaughter, Joselyn Strong, on Aug. 12, 1998. Survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Tallman, of Canton, and Patilyn and Gregg Strong, of Mineral City; one son and daughter-in-law Robert and Patty Maurer, of Mineral City; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; his long-time very close friend and companion, Irene Rowlance, of Canton; and his beloved grand-dog, Chetti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Tyron Tomson as Celebrant. Interment in German Cemetery in Mineral City.
