IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Kinsley
December 17, 1936 – January 9, 2025
Robert "Bob" Lacey Kinsley,
born December 17, 1936, in Scranton, PA, and passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 88. Bob was a beloved brother, uncle, friend, and veteran, whose life was marked by both service to his country and a passion for adventure. A proud two-time enlisted United States Air Force veteran, Bob served honorably in both the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. Throughout his military career, he earned numerous commendations, including the prestigious Purple Heart for his courageous service. He is also recognized as the photograph interpreter who established the early radar signature of ground-to-air missiles. This brilliant breakthrough saved countless lives in Vietnam and beyond. His commitment to his country and his fellow service members defined much of his life. He was the definition of a true patriot.
Bob was a proud graduate of Indiana Institute of Technology. Professionally, Bob was a brilliant electrical engineer, known for his expertise and problem-solving ability. He worked tirelessly throughout his career, and his sharp intellect and dedication made a lasting impact in the field. He retired from Chase Brass and Copper Company in 1991. While there, he took great pride in redesigning and automating the mill. Bob was also a longtime owner of duplex housing and allotments, a testament to his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Bob was an avid traveler and snow skier, enjoying trips across the United States and into Canada. Whether it was the thrill of carving down a mountain slope or exploring new destinations (including Europe), Bob's sense of adventure and zest for life was evident to all who knew him. Bob's life was also marked by the deep companionship he shared with his faithful canine friend, Lucky, who preceded him in death. Bob's love for his friends and pets was a reflection of his gentleness, kindness, and loyalty.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marion Kinsley, as well as his siblings, Dorothy Louise Sadler, Jean Elizabeth Smith, Charles W. Kinsley (Lois), Donald T. Kinsley, Marion Eleanor Leo, and Shirley Emma Buhlman.
He is survived by his nephew, Randall Kinsley, and sister-in-law, Ardyse Kinsley. He is also survived by his dear friends (and Godson), James and Nichole Coy (Lilly, Emma, and Noah), Jon Surprise, Catherine Stricker, Marlon Diehl, his dear neighbors John, Pam, and Jacob Criss, as well as countless others through the AARP travel group, who cherished his friendship and shared many unforgettable experiences with him.
A service will be held Wed., Jan. 15, at 11am in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. Calling hours will be held one hour before the service, from 10-11:00am, in the funeral home. A graveside service with full military honors will take place at 12:45pm in the Western Reserve National Cemetery. Bob will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his dedication to service, his love of adventure, and most of all, his kindness and generosity toward others. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship and devotion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob's memory may be made to Indiana Institute of Technology, 1600 E. Washington Blvd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46803.
