Robert J. Gill Age 87, of Magnolia, passed away Sat., Oct. 8, 2011, in Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar. He was born in East Sparta, a son of the late Glenn "Roy" and Elsie Tooze Gill, and was a life resident of the East Sparta-Magnolia area except for a short time in Canton early in life. Bob was a 1943 graduate of East Sparta High School. He retired in 1989 from Summitville Tile Co. where he was a heavy equipment operator, and previously worked for Gareau Bros., Joe Kitzmiller, and Beaver Excavating. Bob was a member of Sandyville United Methodist Church, the International Union of Operating Engineers, and Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta. He served with the U. S. Navy during World War II. Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Opal M. Gill, on Dec. 1, 2009, and a sister, Dorothy Rose Gill. Survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Tom Cooper, of Hurst, TX, Sue and Harry Jones, of Payson, AZ, and Marcie Gill-Kinast and Morris Kinast, of Canton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Allison, of Canton, and Rosemary and Jim Herstine, of Magnolia; one brother, Harold Lee Gill and Gloria Charton, of Magnolia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Jeffrey (Donna) Umstead, and his sons, Jacob and Nicholas, Joette Niece and her daughter, Nicole (Leonard) Bell, Traci Olszewski and Jeff Jacoby and her children, James Broad, Jr, and Jenna (Adam) Hessedence, Melanie Ferren, and Matt (Nicole) Jones; three great-great-grand-children, Chase and Jeremy Broad, and Dakota Shortt; numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Ruthann Bosley officiating. Interment in Bowman Cemetery with full military honors.
