Obituary

Robert R. Burns Age 86, of Massillon, passed away Monday morning in Hanover House. He was born in Canton, a son of the late William and Louise Schlippe Burns, and was a resident of this area most of his life. Bob attended Ohio University and retired in 1989 after 39 years service as an Engineer, from the E. W. Bliss Co., in Canton, Salem, OH and Hastings, MI. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, which he served as an usher for several years, and the Catholic Order of Foresters, Court #1358. Bob was an avid fan of the McKinley Bulldogs, Ohio State, and the Cleveland Indians. Preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Grace Burns. Survived by his wife, Beverly E. Burns, with whom he celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary on June 12th; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Paul Phillimore, of Aylmer, Ontario, Canada, and Karen and Gary Spino, of Canton; one son, Robert W. Burns, of Columbus, OH; four grand-daughters and three great-grandsons, Michelle (Shawn) Johnson and their sons, Brady and Landon, and Jennifer Spino, all of Columbus, Tara Burns Szabo and her son, Joey, and Tiffany Burns, all of Glen Allen, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Fr. William Kraynak as Celebrant. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Wed. 6-8 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home.
