Richard L. "Dick" Hoot
Age 77 of Canton, passed away Sat. evening, March 24, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Canton, a son of the late Earl and Mildred (Ellenberger) Hoot, and was a life resident. Dick retired in 1982 from the Canton Township Road Dept., after 25 years service, where he did everything from repairing roads to plowing snow. He also served on the Canton Township Fire Dept. at Station #1. Dick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hull. Survived by his wife, Lois F. Hoot, with whom he celebrated their 43rd Wedding Anniversary on March 15th; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Freddy Towe, of Clemson, SC, and Marie and Ray Truman, of Canton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Blaine and Shelda Brown, and Keith and Glenda Brown, all of Canton, and Will Henry, of Cleveland; two sisters, Mary Alice Johnino, of Canton, and Dorothy Galliher, of Tennessee; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joe "Butch" and Nancy Hoot, and Bill Hoot, all of Canton; also 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. According to Dick's wishes he will be cremated and there will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. The Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia is in charge of arrangements.
