Richard W. Beatty 1924-2016
Our beloved husband and father, Richard Wallen Beatty, of Magnolia, passed away Wed., Sept. 7, 2016, following a long illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Dellroy, OH, the younger of two children born to the late Wallen and Venice (Albright) Beatty. After graduation from Magnolia High School in 1943, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. While stationed in Great Britain, he met and married Audrey Pritchard of Bristol, England. After his discharge from the Military, the couple settled in Magnolia, OH, where they raised two daughters. Mr. Beatty worked as a lumber salesman for Brown Lumber in Massillon until retirement in 1987. Involved in his community, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Magnolia Golf League, and Sandy Valley American Legion Post #432, and was elected to the Magnolia Village Council. He was Council President and served as Interim Mayor for a time. After his retirement, he and his wife became "snowbirds", splitting time between homes in Magnolia and Lake Havasu City, AZ, where their daughters reside. They became full time residents of Lake Havasu City in 2012. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Vee Beatty. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Beatty, with whom he celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary on April 10th; two daughters, Sally Chevraux and Sheila (Don) Althaus, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia with Pastor J. Andrew Riggs officiating. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Military Honors.
