Renda M. Phelps   1940 – 2017

Age 76, of East Sparta, passed away Wed., Jan. 4, 2017.  She was born in Kanawha County, WV, a daughter of the late  William and Vonda (Gibson) Castle, and had been an East Sparta resident since 1966.  She retired in 1990 from Colonial Nursing Home in Canton, after six years' service, where she was a nurse's aide.  Renda was a member of Sandy Valley Church of God, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years, and also attended the United Gospel Church in Canton, where she started the United Gospel Outreach Dinner for the homeless.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bobby J. Phelps, on Dec. 15, 2015, two brothers and one sister.  She is survived by two daughters, Delana (John) Vandevort, of Bolivar, and Vonda Phelps and son-in-law, Roger Stout, of East Sparta; two sons, Robert (Corki) Phelps, of Tippecanoe, OH, and Gary (Diane) Phelps, of Mineral City; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Brenda (Ernie) Lucas, of WV.  Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Sandy Valley Church of God with Pastor Clifford Hughes officiating.  Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church one hour before the service.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
