Paul L. Williams

Age 96, of East Sparta, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015.  He was born in East Sparta, a son of the late Clyde and Mamie (Miller) Williams, and was a life resident.  Paul was a 1937 graduate of East Sparta High School.  He retired in 1981 as co-owner with his brother, Harold, of Williams Super Service in East Sparta, which they operated for 35 years.  They also co-owned the Sandy Valley Local school buses for 20years.  In 1998 he and Harold were honored as Co-Citizens of The Year during the annual Homecoming.  He was a 67 year member of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta, for whom he served on the Honor Guard for funerals for many years.  Paul served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1942-45 in the European Theatre Operation.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Joyce C. Williams, on Nov. 24, 2003, a son Jack, two brothers, Clyde and Harold, and a sister, Mary Burkett.  He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jan and Helen Williams, of Virginia, and Jefford and Rose Williams, of East Sparta; three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren, Jana and Joe Delibert, and their children, Cole and Danielle, Mara and Basheer Wheeler, and Stephaney and Michael Phomson.  Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Peggy Garner officiating.  Interment in East Sparta with Full Military Honors.  Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
