OWEN W. "BUD" ABEL, JR.,

Age 99, of North Canton, passed away Feb. 17, 2016.  Born Oct. 12, 1916, in Canton, a son of the late Owen and Grace (Dourm) Abel, Sr., he had been a life resident of the Canton area.  Bud was a 1934 graduate of McKinley High School and retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a Letter Carrier for 35 years and Manager of the East Canton Post Office for 4 years and also worked at Fisher Foods for 10 years.  He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Postal Supervisors.  Preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Ruth Abel, on June 30, 2015, his son, Ted Abel in 2013, and two sisters, Martha Jane Drake and Carolyn Roshong.  Survived by two daughters, Betts Abel and Patrick Saccomandi, and Becky Abel; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dr. Richard Abel and Dr. Barbara Hodgdon, Robert Abel, Tom and Nancy Abel, and John and Karen Abel; one daughter-in-law, Dr. Deb Abel; one sister, Joan Kraft; and 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in Grace United Church of Christ, 2300 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, OH.  The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall during a luncheon immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bud's memory may be made to Grace United Church of Christ, 2300 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709.  The Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
