Orin M. Slates Age 102, a resident of the Canton Christian Home, passed away there Sat. morning. He was born in Bergholz, OH, a son of the late Merrill and Wilretta Miller Slates, and had been a Canton resident most of his adult life. He was a 1927 graduate of Bergholz High School. Orin was the retired owner-operator of O. M. Slates Coal Co. on Navarre Rd. in Canton, and was a member of Perry Christian Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie H. Slates, on Dec. 6, 2003, two sons, Fred and Samuel Slates, a brother, Howard Slates, and a sister, Helen Oliver. Survived one son and three daughters-in-law, Roger and Judy Slates, of Potosi, MO, Marilyn Slates, of Jackson Township, and Neva Slates, of Streetsboro, OH; eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours and a private family service will be held at a later date.
