Opal M. Gill Age 87, of Magnolia, passed away Tuesday morning in Aultman Hospital. She was born in East Sparta, a daughter of the late Ruliff and Odessa Yutzey Slutz, and was a life resident of this area. Opal attended East Sparta High School and was awarded an Honorary Diploma from Sandy Valley High School in 2007. She was a member of Sandyville United Methodist Church, which she served as treasurer for 40 years, and the Willing Workers of the church, also the Auxiliary of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta, and the Sandy Valley Women's Club. Preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters, Harold "Bud" Slutz, Glen Slutz, Lucille Wright, Florence Black, Mary Law, and Loretta McCreery. Survived by her husband, Robert J. Gill, with whom she celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary on June 11th; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Tom Cooper, of Hurst, TX, Sue and Harry Jones, of Payson, AZ, and Marcie Gill-Kinast and Morris Kinast, of Canton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Umstead and his wife, Donna, and his sons, Jacob and Nicholas, Joette Neice and her daughter, Nicole, Traci Olszewski and her children, James Broad, Jr. and Jenna Hessedence and her husband, Adam, Melanie Ferren, Matt Jones and his wife, Nicole; and one great-great-grandson, Chase Broad; also numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Ruthann Bosley and Rev. Evelyn Weaver officiating.
