Nettie C. "Kate" Martin Age 89, formerly of Mineral City, passed away Wed. morning in Hennis Care Centre in Dover, where she resided the past seven months. She was born in Louisville, OH, a daughter of the late John and Nettie Gephart Ley, and had been a Mineral City resident all her life until going to live with her daughter almost five years ago. Kate had worked in the Lab at Republic Steel Corp. during World War II, and also at the U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. in East Sparta. She was a member of Mineral City Church of The Nazarene where she sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Wilbur L. Martin, on March 5, 1981, a son-in-law, William Shepherd, seven brothers and three sisters. Survived by her daughter, Diana Shepherd, two grandsons and their wives, Ron and Becky Shepherd, and Joe and Michelle Shepherd, and four great-grandchildren, April, Alex, and Andrew Shepherd, and Lauren Davia, all of New Philadelphia. Services will be conducted Sat. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. Interment in German Cemetery.
