Mildred A. Sheatzley Passed away Wed. morning, Aug. 1, 2012, in the Sanctuary at Woodland, in Brighton, MI, one day shy of her 95th birthday. She was born in Rockwood, PA, a daughter of the late Christian and Hattie (Beck) Schrock, and had been a Canton resident over 50 years until going to Michigan. She grew up in the Rockwood area, and upon the death of her father when she was 16, she stopped attending high school and went to work in Somerset, PA as a housekeeper for Dr. Hemminger, her mother's cousin, to help support the family. She later moved to Canton and took a position in the Lab at Republic Steel, where she met her husband, John. Mildred and John Sheatzley were married on Dec. 25, 1947. She was employed at Republic Steel until the birth of her first daughter. Mildred was a stay at home wife and mother. She proudly completed her GED while raising her three children. When her children all left home, she worked for a dry cleaning business. Mildred was a member of First Christian Church and the Berean Sunday School Class of the church, and during her later years, the church and the Berean class members were a very special part of her life. Mildred was a wonderful wife and mother to her three children. She enjoyed trying new recipes with her cooking, loved making holidays special, always canned and froze fruits and vegetables in the summer, and took great pride in caring for her home and family. She enjoyed reading novels, sewing, quilting, puzzles, and doing crafts. She was happiest when family managed to be together. Mildred loved to travel and managed to tour 48 of the 50 states with family and friends. Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John R. Sheatzley, on Oct. 13, 2007, her son, James H.
